South American Cruise - Rio Tapajos
minerva II tim in cabin Fifteen men on a Dead Man's...
During the night we sail east down the Amazon and moor at a small town called Santerem on the Rio Tapajos.
The local kids come out and row around the ship for kicks...
...and I get arty with the new camera...somewhat unsuccessfully.
Its quite a small town built around a main bankside road. Pestestrians are in the minority, as most people do the two wheel thing.
Bars, bikes and churches...it could be Ireland.
It got me like Piccadilly Circus - I had to sit down and take it easy. What's with all these bikers?
[Can you spot Waldo the horse somewhere in this image?]
After a fierce 10 minute gun battle, I decided it was probably time to return to the ship. They don't wait for you apparently.
En route, I bought some suntan gunk for $3 from the art deco styled drugstore of the Amazonas - everything was real cheap. Everybody says haggle, but come on, why?
Another night aboard, travelling east, and an Amazonian sunset photo op presents itself. Well you've gotta haven't you?
